Gucci Has a New Creative Director, and It's Not Who You Might Think
Only a little over a month after the news that longtime creative director Frida Giannini would leave the house of Gucci, the Milan-based fashion brand has tapped a new creative director. While rumours swirled that former creative director Tom Ford would return to the label's top spot, the speculation proved to be just that.
According to Vogue U.K., Gucci has officially confirmed its lead accessories designer Alessandro Michele as the new creative director for the brand."After a considered and thorough selection process, Alessandro Michele has been chosen to assume the role as Gucci creative director, based upon the contemporary vision he has articulated for the brand that he will now bring to life," Gucci president and CEO Marco Bizzarri said in a statement.
While many might be sad to see that Ford would not make a triumphant return to the brand he helmed for 10 years, the Gucci team stands by their decision to tap Michele.
