    How to connect a router?

    A router or in another way a Wi-Fi router is a device that organizes a local network and distributes the Internet to the equipment connected to it via wire or wirelessly.

    In our article we will discuss how to install, connect and configure the router correctly.

    The choice of installation location, connection and configuration

    Choosing a location for a router

    Before directly connecting a Wi-Fi router, you need to select the optimal location of the device.

    1. If you live alone and your plans do not include frequent use of the router, then install the router directly near the workplace in your room.
    2. If you plan to actively use the device or your family members are also interested in using the router, then the corridor is the best place to install the device. Or you can independently determine the location, which will be located approximately in the middle of your apartment.
      • If you have chosen the location of your room, the router can be placed directly on the computer desk;
      • If you chose the location of the device another room, it is better to remove the device on a high surface, for example, on the closet;
      • Well, if you are staying on the corridor, then the router can be screwed to the wall with dowels (which should be included in the configuration).

    Each apartment will have to select its optimal location for the device due to differences in the layout, the amount of furniture, the material of the walls, etc.

    Before choosing an installation site, check the network coverage in all rooms and do not rush to fix the router before it is finally connected.

    Router connection

    1. Rotate the router back panel towards you.
    2. On the back panel you will see several LAN ports (most often four) of the same color - these are connectors for connecting devices (phones, laptops, computers, etc.).
    3. If your computer or laptop is equipped with a built-in Wi-Fi module, the connection via the LAN port will be irrelevant.
    4. The excellent color port is called WAN and is used to connect a network cable (the port can be signed as Internet).Connect the provider's cable to the WAN port (the cable must be connected to the computer via the network card connector).
    5. After connecting the network cable, the port indicator should be activated (it will blink). This means that the device has connected.

    The next step is to configure the router.

    Router Setup

    1. First you need to understand the settings of the network card: click on the network icon (monitor image on the bottom panel near the clock) and go to the tab "Network and Sharing Center".
    2. Next on the left side of the screen, find the tab "Change adapter settings" and click on it.
    3. Click on the "Local Area Connection" icon and select the type of connection to the router.
    4. Next, click on the "Properties" tab and select "Internet Protocol Version 4".
    5. If the settings will appear in the window that appears, then rewrite them on a sheet and set the IP and DNS addresses to auto-configure by ticking the appropriate boxes and clicking on the "Ok" button.
    6. Next, find in the instructions from the router IP device, username and password (different manufacturers may have different settings, but usually the IP address is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, the username is admin, the password is admin or 1234).
    7. Enter the IP address in the browser row and press the "Enter" key.
    8. After the authorization window appears, you must enter your username and password.

    Note that the configuration of routers of all companies is identical and does not require much effort when installing on your own. At the same time, the cost of connecting a specialist is twice as high as the price of the device itself.
