How to make smoking tobacco: the process
Before fresh tobacco leaves turn into flavored smoking tobacco, they are pretreated. Here, processes such as processing, drying, fermentation, heat treatment, cutting and others play an important role. Let's take a closer look at each stage.
- To start, sort out the tobacco leaves, throw away the spoiled leaves and litter.
- Tie several leaves together and hang them in a well-ventilated, dark room. Drying should last at least three weeks. In the process of drying, unwanted harmful substances are removed from tobacco leaves, the taste and aroma of tobacco is formed. With air drying, a large amount of nicotine is stored.
- Tobacco must be fermented. During this process, the chemical composition of tobacco leaves changes. Fermentation always occurs under pressure: either its own weight of the leaves, or with the help of special tools, for example, under a powerful press. In industrial production, for example, tobacco leaves are put in high stacks in a dark room. Under the action of pressure and lack of oxygen in the lower layers, chemical processes begin. Then lower leaves reach and put others. At home, with small amounts of tobacco leaves, the process is greatly simplified. Just gently fold the leaves in a plastic bag, tie and place in a dark place. Evidence that the fermentation process was successful, will change the color of the leaves - from green they will turn brownish yellow.
- Heat treatment is done with hot air or steam. Carefully cut tobacco leaves with a knife.Place a sheet of baking paper on a baking sheet. Pour tobacco in a thin layer and dry at about 100 degrees. When the tobacco goes dark, it's time to turn the oven off. Make sure that the tobacco is not burnt. You can store the finished tobacco in ceramic or porcelain dishes or in a cloth bag.
