Oscars 2019: Who Will Take Home A Statuette?
With the most anticipated award ceremony just around the corner, it’s time to make your predictions for who’ll be taking home as Oscar this weekend.
The Golden Globes and BAFTAS are generally a good indicator of what we can expect from the 88th Academy Awards next month. There’s much talk of Leonardo DiCaprio winning the award that’s evaded him so far in his career, and after his Best Actor win at both the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs, the odds are tipped in his favour. However, he’s up against strong contenders, including last year’s Best Actor winner Eddie Redmayne.
The Revenant holds the most nominations at 12, closely followed by Mad Max: Fury Road with 10 and The Martian with 7. Winning Best Film and Best Drama at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes respectively, The Revenant seems the likely winner of the coveted Best Feature Film award this Sunday.
Brie Larson is tipped to take home Best Actress following her BAFTA win, but will her harrowing performance in Room stand out from Saoirse Ronan’s stunning portrayal of an Irish immigrant in Brooklyn? At 21 years old, Saoirse may be this year’s youngest nominee – but a newcomer she is not. This is her second Academy Award nomination, her first being for Best Supporting Actress in 2007 for her role in Atonement – aged just 12!
Ready to place your bets? See the nominations below, then make your predictions before this year’s awards show on 28th February.
