• Vintage Box

The art of decoupage became popular in the 18th-19th centuries, when this type of art became popular in Europe. This technique, the name of which in French means “cut”, is to transfer the image to wooden products, leather, metal, fabric and furniture. Working in the technique of "decoupage", you can create original and very beautiful furnishings, designed in the spirit of the 20-30s of the twentieth century with the characteristic "faded" time. You can create this vintage-style casket with your own hands using the tips of this master class. You will need:
     Will require
    - wooden box (such boxes can be purchased in the department of goods for needlework and scrapbooking); - acrylic art paints. The work will require several colors: dark brown to create a basic shade, white for priming and golden metallic for decorating the finished product; - napkins with a pattern. To decorate the box, you can choose any motif, but it is the “vintage” style that involves using delicate flowers and compositions, floral patterns, sentimental plots and retro portraits; - special decoupage glue. Preference is given to water-based decoupage glue, which creates a dense coating and dries quickly; - synthetic brushes of various sizes. Working in this technique, it is better to give preference to artificial brushes, since natural ones can crumble and leave villus on the surface; - a candle that will be used for “aging” of a casket; - a sponge for applying paint; - emery paper; - metal figures, frames, flowers, lace - all this will be used to decorate and decorate the chest. We proceed to making a vintage chest. 1. At the beginning of work it is necessary to clean all the irregularities on a wooden surface with sandpaper. Thus, the box will be ready for painting.
     clean up all the bumps
    2. The first layer is applied brown paint.Acrylic dries quickly enough, so after 30 minutes you can not apply the following coating: water-based varnish.
     apply brown paint
     apply the next coating
    waterborne varnish
     dries fast enough
    3. After the varnish has dried, all the edges of the box are carefully coated with wax candles. The wax will not allow the coatings to be firmly bonded to each other, so that the product can be given the effect of “rubbing” by scraping the paint where wax has been applied. where the wax is applied

    4. At the next stage we cover the box with a layer of acrylic white. It is preferable to apply paint with a sponge from a paralon as it will help to avoid stains and an uneven covering. When the light layer is completely dry, you need to clean the edges and corners of the chest with emery paper until a brown shade appears. clean edges and corners
    5. Now you can start gluing images. Carefully separate the topmost color layer from the napkin and determine how the pictures will be placed on the box. Putting a napkin to the workpiece, start applying glue for decoupage with a wide flat brush, while smoothing the folds that are formed. When the glue dries, fix the result with water-based varnish.

    6. When the varnish is dry, shade the edges and edges of the box with dark brown paint to enhance the effect of "rubbing". After the brown paint has dried, we apply acrylic with metallic gold glitter over it, thanks to which the aged edges of the box will look interesting and natural.Fix the paint with lacquer for decoupage.
