    What is gasoline?

Of the liquid fractions of petroleum, gasoline is considered the lightest. This fraction is obtained among others as a result of the sublimation of oil. In the usual hydrocarbon composition of gasoline, there are molecules with a length of C5 - C10. But gasoline may differ from each other, both in properties and in composition, because they are not only obtained from the primary sublimation of oil. What is gasoline, if its main characteristic is detonation resistance?

    What is detonation

Detonation arises due to the incompatibility of the fuel grade, the degree of its compression, the soot that forms in the combustion chamber, the low rotational speed of the crankshaft (for example, if you move downhill in a raised gear) and early ignition. With a significant detonation should not allow the engine to work for a long time. But a small detonation is considered a typical and normal phenomenon (for example, during acceleration of the car), and for the driver does not pose any threat.

The detonation properties of the fuel are usually estimated using the octane number. This is the main difference between different grades of gasoline. To determine the octane number, there are two methods - research and motor. The method for determining the octane number is indicated in the labeling of gasoline. The research method, for example, is indicated by the letter "I". The higher the degree of gasoline, the greater its detonation resistance.

    Types of gasoline

Gasoline grades from A-72 to AI-98 are produced in Russia and the CIS countries. In addition, gasoline is unleaded, unleaded and leaded. The main types of gasoline abroad are considered to be Premium varieties. The octane number of this gasoline is 97-98. In addition, there is also a “Regulator”, the octane number of which does not exceed 94. In the USA and Great Britain, gasoline under the Super brand with an octane rating of 102 is in great demand. For cars produced at the end of the last century, octane fuel is best suited 92. Cars manufactured after 2000 are best fueled with petrol with an octane rating of at least 94. Fuel with an octane rating of 95 and above is best suited for cars that were released after 2005.

In addition to the octane number, gasoline is also characterized by the presence of alkalis, acids, organic and sulfur compounds, as well as contamination by mechanical impurities.Gasoline of domestic production, unfortunately, in many cases has low rates precisely in these characteristics. As a result, it may be that during the combustion of such gasoline, detonation will occur, the process of formation of tar and carbon will increase, and engine wear will increase. Therefore, in the fuel system must be a fine filter.
