    What is laminate flooring?

Very convenient to use, but absolutely not the exact term "laminate" is used to refer to one of the many types of flooring. Just want to note that the lamination (the process of applying to the surface of a thin film of plastic), you can expose a lot of materials: from thin sheets of paper to heavy steel sheets. Therefore, it is absolutely not clear why this particular type of flooring received such a name. And yet, what is laminate flooring?

Imagine a laminate board that is somewhat like a layered cake. The topmost layer, protective, is represented by a special high-strength film based on melamine or acrylic resins. The next layer - decorative - are specially processed and impregnated paper or furniture foil, which is an imitation of wood or texture of anything.

If you still doubt the choice of flooring for your home (it will be linoleum or laminate), then it’s better to read another article - “Which is better: laminate or linoleum?”before continuing to read this narrow-profile article on laminate.

What is the class of laminate

Each type of laminate has its own class of operation, which is used to denote the time period during which the laminate will perfectly perform its functions when exposed to various loads. The class of laminate is determined in accordance with the approved European standard EN 13329. It consists of 18 tests, after passing which, one or another class is assigned to each floor covering. The European standard also distinguishes 2 main groups in a number of laminated flooring: home use laminates and floor laminate for commercial use. If you want to definitely know which laminate is better, then be sure to follow the link - “Which laminate is better?”.

The most common classes of laminate:

    • - 31 class (recommended for commercial premises with a weak load).
    • - 32 class (used in the premises of commercial value with an average load).
