    What is macaw?

    The macaw is a certain genus of birds that belongs to the order of parrots. Representatives of this genus, regardless of gender, are characterized by a very bright and beautiful color, a long tail and a rather large body - about 90 cm. They live for about 40-80 years.

    It cannot be said that this genus of parrots is suitable for home maintenance, since for a full life it needs a lot of free space.

    Who are the macaws and how they live

    In the modern world, there are about 17 species of macaws. Some of them have a very bright color, while others are painted in a gray-blue color. Macaws are the largest parrots, besides they have a very large and strong rounded beak with a curved tip.

    • In nature, found in the tropics, are daytime, very active. The macaw is a pack parrot, also loves to live in pairs, which it creates for many years.
    • They make nests in hollows of trees. Spend a lot of time sitting in the crown of trees. They make very loud and harsh sounds when a predator approaches, and quickly fly away.
    • The diet of poultry consists of fruits, vegetables, berries, grains.
    • The macaws breed from February to June in the northern regions of America, and in the south of South America, the mating period occurs from August to December. Macaws lay up to 3 eggs in nests, which they carefully guard and incubate for a month. In captivity breed extremely rarely.

    The genus ara can be divided into 4 groups.

    1. Sam Rod Ara. It has about 13 species.
    2. Blue-browed macaw.
    3. Macau
    4. Blue Macaw or Macaw Spix.
